BALTIMORE – The Lady Eagles close the curtains on their four-game road trip against the University of Miami Saturday at 1 p.m. in the BankUnited Center.
SERIES HISTORYCoppin State takes on the University of Miami for the second consecutive season. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 4-0 against the Eagles. In last year's meeting, Miami edged out a 63-58 victory over Coppin State. Every contest between the two teams has been played in Coral Gables, Fla. This is the third Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe the Eagles have faced this season after battling N.C. State and Wake Forest.
LAST TIME OUTFour players scored in double figures for Coppin State in the 81-65 setback to Mount St. Mary's Wednesday night in Knott Arena in a non-conference match-up. The Eagles (1-7) were led by
Jordan Swails' career-high 19 points. She also pulled down five rebounds and had three steals.
Bria Harris added 14 points and seven rebounds. Harris shot 3-for-5 from the field and made all eight of her free-throws.
Janelle Lane finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in the contest. She was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Amber Griffin rounded out the scoring with 11 points and five assists. As a team, Coppin State shot 91.3 percent from the foul line.
LOOKING AT MIAMIAs a member of the ACC, the Hurricanes earned an automatic bid into the WNIT last season where they lost to Stetson University in the opening round. Currently, Miami (6-2) is enjoying a four-game winning streak. The Hurricanes are coming off a 65-36 win over Jacksonville last Saturday. Three players finished with double digits in scoring. Sophomore Adrienne Motley paced the team with a game-high 17 points. She shot 5-of-9 from the field. Sophomore Jessica Thomas and red-shirt freshman Nigia Greene added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Miami did not allow Jacksonville a field-goal until 4:25 was left in the first half. This season, the Hurricanes have held six of their eight opponents under 60 points.
MAKING IT COUNTCoppin State has six players shooting over 60 percent from the free-throw line.
Janelle Lane has the best showing with 79.3 percent.
Keena Samuels (77.8 percent) and
Jordan Swails (70.0 percent) are close behind.
HITTING DOUBLE FIGURESThis season, the Eagles have had at least one player score in double digits in seven of their eight games. Coppin State has four games where three or more Eagles have registered double figures.
LANE & HARRISJanelle Lane is the leading scorer for Coppin State, averaging 10.9 points per game.
Bria Harris follows up with 10.6 points per outing. Harris tops the Eagles in rebounding with 8.5 boards per game.
