NEWARK, N.J. – The Coppin State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to New Jersey Institute of Technology in a non-conference match Friday night at the Fleischer Center.
Despite a team-high 16 kills from senior
Ariel Richard and 35 assists from
Chelsee Sauni, the Eagles fell by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 17-25, 25-14. The setback ended Coppin State's three-match winning streak and dropped its record to 13-12 overall.
Sauni set a program standard for most assists in a season, topping the mark of 1,045 she had last season. With her performance against NJIT, Sauni upped her season total to 1,052.
For Richard, it was the 60th time in her career that she finished with double-digit kills in a match. Freshman
Maya Horner added 10 digs for the Eagles. Three Eagles also collected at least 10 digs:
Gabrielle Otero (17 digs),
Nicole Malave-Adams (13) and
Bailee Jackson (11).
NJIT (10-19) was paced by 20 kills from Danica Vukotic and 33 assists from Alyssa Armada.
Coppin State closes its 2014 regular season when it visits Howard for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
