BALTIMORE – The Coppin State's women's bowling team completed its first day at the FDU Jamboree.
The Eagles dropped team matches to Cheyney, Felician, Vanderbilt, Valparaiso, and Pitt-Bradford.
Junior
Kache Woods led the team with 808 pins and averaged a 161.6 pinfall. She had a high game of 199 against Vanderbilt.
Classmate
Kristen Sharpe bowled a team-high 216 against Felician. It was also a season-high pinfall for Sharpe and the Eagles, who topped 200 for the fourth time since the start of the 2013 season. She finished with 778 pins knocked down and averaged a 155.6 pinfall.
Sophomore
Brionca Beard recorded a career-high 194 pinfall against Valparasio. She also had the third-best total on the team with 684 pins. Beard averaged 136.8 pins.
Freshman
Jasmine Newman had 672 pins on the day and averaged a 134.4 pinfall. She tallied 155 pins against Felician. Sophomores
Maribel Lovos and
Shawdae Frederick bowled 307 and 193, respectively. Lovos averaged a 102.3 pinfall and had a career-high 112 pins against Vanderbilt. Frederick rolled 108 against Valparaiso and averaged 96.5 pins.
"We really started out well but couldn't finish at the end," Coppin State head coach
Ty Robinson said. "We didn't take advantage of our chance to close out our games against Felician and Pitt-Bradford. We learned a ton of lessons today and I hope we can keep working hard to have better results going into tomorrow."
