Biography

2014 (Junior): Named to the All-MEAC Academic Team and helped Coppin State advance to the MEAC semifinals for the second consecutive season…Played in 16 matches and played in 32 sets…She averaged 0.66 kills per set, 0.31 digs per set and 0.16 blocks per set…She posted a season-high seven kills and two blocks against Loyola (8/29)….Overall, for the season, Sturgeon had 21 kills and 10 digs.

2013 (Sophomore): Named to the All-MEAC Volleyball Academic Team. Appeared in all 31matches and played a total of 103 sets. She finished with 161 kills, which was fifth on the team. Sturgeon had five matches with double digit kills. She had double digit kills in three straight matches: 12 against Norfolk State (Oct. 27), 16 each against Delaware State (Nov. 1) and UMES (Nov. 3). In the win over Delaware State, Sturgeon had a season-best .560 attack percentage (16-2-25). She averaged 1.86 points, 1.56 kills and 1.33 digs per set. Sturgeon also finished with 137 digs and 31 blocks. She recorded at least seven digs in a match 11 times.
 
2012 (Freshman): Played in all 25 matches…Appeared in 88 sets…Finished second on the team with 28 service aces…Ranked second on the team with 148 digs…Was second on the team averaging 1.68 digs per set…Had three double-figure dig matches…Also had 17 assists and five blocks…Had a career-best six service aces in Coppin State’s 3-1 victory against Bryant (9/1)…Had four service aces in the Eagles 3-0 win versus St. Francis (N.Y.) (9/15)…Had a career-high 14 digs versus Hampton (9/30)…Also posted a career-best six kills and recorded three service aces and an assist against the Pirates…Had 13 digs and three kills in Coppin State’s 3-1 victory against Bethune-Cookman (10/21)…Posted 10 digs against Lafayette (9/15)…Had a career-high two blocks in Coppin State’s 3-0 win versus Norfolk State (9/28)…Notched five kills versus St. Francis (N.Y.) (9/15)…Had four kills at American (9/19) and versus Norfolk State (9/28)…Had a service ace against Florida A&M (11/16) in the MEAC Tournament.
 
High School: Attended O.W.
