NORFOLK, Va. – The Coppin State volleyball team continued its hot streak, sweeping Norfolk State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-11), Sunday afternoon at the James D. Gill Health & Physical Education Building.
With their ninth-straight victory, the Eagles improve to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in MEAC play, while Norfolk State falls to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Coppin State controlled the match from the outset, hitting .376 as a team while limiting the Spartans to a .084 attack percentage. The Eagles recorded 43 kills on 85 attempts and committed just 11 errors.
Setter
Eva Rovello orchestrated the Eagles' offense with a match-high 36 assists, averaging 12 assists per set. She also added one kill and one ace in the victory.
Andrea Cintron provided a spark from the service line, recording a team-high five aces, while
Coco Figueroa added two aces along with a match-high 20 digs.
Coppin State jumped out to a 25-14 victory in the opening set, hitting .286 while holding Norfolk State to a .107 mark. The Eagles continued their momentum in the second set, overcoming a closer battle to take a 25-21 decision. The Eagles closed out the match emphatically in the third set, hitting .417 and cruising to an 25-11 victory.
Coppin is home for the first time this season on Tuesday, September 29 when it hosts Loyola Maryland at 6pm.
