WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Coppin State women's volleyball team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play in impressive fashion Thursday evening, sweeping Howard, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20), at Burr Gymnasium.

With their eighth-straight victory, the Eagles improve to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in MEAC play, while Howard falls to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Coppin State controlled the match from the start, hitting .306 as a team while holding Howard to a .094 hitting percentage. The Eagles also dominated at the net, recording 14 blocks to Howard's four.

Cherisse Atliano led Coppin State with 10 kills, while Deviana Walker added nine kills while hitting .500. Kayden Cupid and Ivanna Luna each contributed six kills, with Cupid also hitting .500.

Running the Coppin State offense was Eva Rovello, who recorded a match-high 31 assists and added four service aces, two kills and five digs. Her four aces were a team-high as the Eagles finished with seven aces overall.

Defensively, Coco Figueroa paced the Eagles with 13 digs, while Rori Gray recorded a team-best six blocks. Atliano and Walker each added two blocks.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday, September 27 when they travel to Norfolk State for a 1 pm start on the MEAC Network.
