WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Coppin State women's volleyball team continued its impressive run Sunday afternoon, defeating New Haven, 3-1, at The Hazell Center to extend its winning streak to seven consecutive matches. The Eagles (8-5) secured the victory by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-27, 25-19, completing a perfect weekend in Connecticut.
 
Coppin State's balanced offensive attack was on full display as four Eagles finished with at least 10 kills for the first time since a 3-1 victory over Morgan State on Oct. 18, 2024.
 
Deviana Walker led the Eagles with a match-high 14 kills, while Ivanna Luna added 12 kills. Kayden Cupid and Rori Gray each contributed 11 kills, giving Coppin State four players in double figures. Gray hit an impressive .500 for the match, while Cupid finished with a .474 hitting percentage.
 
Cupid was also dominant defensively, matching a career-high with ten blocks to post a double-double. The performance marked the third 10-block match of her career and her second this season.
 
With her 10 blocks, Cupid moved into eighth place on Coppin State's all-time blocks list with 174 career blocks, passing Indira Laurencin ('07), Salena Weekly ('11) and Geraldyn Palacios ('23).
 
Coppin State controlled the match at the net, finishing with a 13-4 advantage in blocks, while also holding a 61-48 edge in kills. The Eagles hit an impressive .312 for the match compared to .162 for New Haven.
 
After taking the opening two sets, Coppin State battled through a third-set challenge as New Haven rallied for a 27-25 victory. The Eagles answered emphatically in the fourth, recording 15 kills while hitting .324 to close out the match.
 
Eva Rovello once again directed the Coppin State offense, finishing with 42 assists, while adding six kills and 10 digs for her league-leading seventh double-double this year. Coco Figueroa anchored the defensive effort with a match-high 19 digs, while Rovello added 10 and Pamela De Jesus Tejedor recorded seven.
 
The Eagles also received four blocks each from Luna and Walker, while Figueroa and Andrea Cintron each recorded two service aces.
 
The victory capped a remarkable 4-0 weekend for Coppin State, which also collected wins over UConn, Rhode Island and Merrimack at the Huskies' For The White & Blue Tournament.
 
Coppin State will return to action Thursday, Sept. 24, when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face Howard in its MEAC opener at 6 p.m. The Eagles will also head to Norfolk State on Sunday, September 27 before welcoming Loyola Maryland to PEC Arena for its home opener at 6 pm on September 29.
