BURLINGTON, N.C. – Coppin State University women's golf team made history this week, competing in the program's first-ever tournament at the Elon Women's Invitational at Alamance Country Club. The Eagles finished 15th as a team with a three-round score of 1,013 (334-339-340) on the par-71, 6,225-yard course.
Genesis Lewis led the way for the Eagles, finishing tied for 51st with a 235 (+22). Lewis carded rounds of 79, 76 and 80, including a team-best 76 during Monday's second round. Among her highlights was an Eagle on the par-five, sixth hole in round one, along with birdie on the tenth. In round two, she made par on 11 holes along with a birdie on the 13
th.
Angelique Espinosa finished 71st overall with a 245 (+32), posting three rounds of 83, 82 and 80. Her final-round 80 tied Lewis for Coppin State's lowest score of the day.
Alina Amos finished with a 247 (+34), opening the tournament with a team-best 78 and two birdies before recording rounds of 84 and 85.
Isabelle Nguyen posted a 288 (+75), while
Jordyn Kyle rounded out the Eagles' lineup with a 297 (+84).
Elon captured the team championship with an 861 (+9), followed by William & Mary (882) and Wofford (884). Howard finished fourth at 887, while North Carolina A&T placed sixth at 890.
The Eagles are scheduled to compete next on October 5-6 at Chicago State's Maurice Allen Intercollegiate Championship, held at George Dunne National Golf Course in Chicago.
