BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Coppin State's
Jake Cumming has been named the NEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first weekly honor that Cumming has received from the NEC.
A junior from Fernley, Nev., Cumming was dominant in a conference-opening win over Mercyhurst over the weekend, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven over 7.2 innings. The hard throwing righthander forced ten groundball outs and held the Lakers scoreless for the first 5.1 innings in a 2-1 victory.
Cumming is currently 1-2 with a 6.75 earned run average this season while striking out 18 batters in 16.0 innings of work. He currently ranks second in the NEC in strikeouts and sixth in innings pitched.
The Eagles travel to play Richmond on Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 pm before traveling to FDU for a three-game conference series on March 13-15.
