GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the ninth-straight season, the Coppin State baseball team, under the leadership of head coach
Sherman Reed, has received the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, it was announced late last week. The award honors ABCA member programs that posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2025-26 academic year.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award and this year, nearly 500 college programs and more than 320 high school programs were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements.
During the 2026 season, Coppin finished 11-37 overall, which included a three-game series at Oklahoma who went on to win the National Title, and NEC series victories against Mercyhurst and Central Connecticut State.
Since the 2018 season, the first of Coppin's nine-straight Team Academic Excellence Awards, the Eagles have won over 140 games which included the Covid-shortened 2020 season. The Eagles had four seasons with at least 20 victories while winning a MEAC Regular Season Championship in 2018 and advancing to its first-ever NCAA Regional in 2022 after winning the MEAC Title.
