Morris Repeats as MEAC Player of the Week; Burris Earns Defensive Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Khila Morris repeated as MEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week while teammate Sydney Burris earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the third time this season that Morris was named Player of the Week and the second time that Burris received defensive player accolades.
 
A senior from Bronx, N.Y., Morris averaged 19.0 points on 16-of-26 (61.5%) shooting from the floor to go with 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in a pair of conference wins last week.  Morris opened the week with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals at South Carolina State.  Two days later, she stuffed the stat sheet once again with 16 points, four rebounds, five assists, a block, and a steal at NC Central.
 
Morris ranks fourth in the MEAC in scoring (13.3), fifth in assists (3.1) and tenth in steals (43) while sitting fourth in field goal percentage (43.4), second in 3-point field goal percentage (36.4), sixth in 3-pointers (28) and first in minutes (35.3). In MEAC play, Morris has been even better, putting up 15.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.0 steals while shooting 47.1% from the floor. Her 56 baskets in conference action lead the league.
 
Burris averaged 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to go with 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals last week, making an impressive 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the floor and 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the line.  A senior from Milwaukee, Wisc., Burris had eight rebounds, a block and three steals at South Carolina before putting up a monster performance at NC Central.  Burris scored a career-high 23 points on 7-of-8 from the floor and 8-of-9 free throws to go with 12 rebounds and a career-high four blocks in the Battle of the Eagles.
 
For the season, Burris is averaging 6.0 points and 5.8 rebounds to go with 26 steals and a team-high 21 blocks. Burris is the top offensive rebounder in the MEAC this season while ranking sixth in overall rebounds and fourth in blocks.
 
CSU (9-18, 6-4 MEAC) has won five-straight games entering its Homecoming battle against Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 pm on Saturday, February 21.
