BALTIMORE – In its home opener, Coppin State's volleyball team took a set from Georgetown in a 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 25-27, 25-21) loss on Wednesday night at PEC Arena. Both teams now stand at 2-5 on the season.
TaKenya Stafford put up a double-double with 15 kills and ten digs while
Kayden Cupid added seven kills on .429 hitting to go with three blocks.
Cherisse Atilano added eight kills, 11 digs and two blocks but the rest of the Eagles managed just ten combined kills.
Coco Figueroa led all players with an impressive 30 digs while
Andrea Serrano (20) and
Andrea Cintron (14) combined for 34 assists on the team's 40 kills. The Eagles hit just .081 while the Hoyas hit .255 and unblocked Coppin, 12-8.
Serrano also added three aces and Cintron was credited with two blocks while
Araya Garrison matched Cupid for a team-high three blocks.
Three Hoyas finished with double-digit kills, led by Dionna Mitchell with 15 to go with 13 digs and three blocks.
Coppin co-hosts the Charm City Classic with Towson on September 12-13. On Friday, the Eagles will play Lafayette at 10 am and Penn at 6 pm before taking on Iona (11 am) and Princeton (6 pm) on Saturday.
