Coco Figueroa Named MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Coco Figueroa has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.  This is the fifth time that Figueroa has received this weekly honor from the MEAC during her career.
 
A junior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa averaged 6.17 digs/set as the Eagles opened their season with a 1-2 record at the Aggie/Phoenix Invitational over the weekend.  Figueroa started the season with 16 digs, five assists and a pair of aces in a win at Elon before totaling 24 digs against Bethune-Cookman in the first match on Saturday. 
 
Figueroa concluded the tournament in record fashion, tallying a CSU 5-set match record 34 digs along with three assists and three aces in a thriller at North Carolina A&T. Her 34 digs are the second-most in school history to Ashley Roman's 36 set against American on September 6, 2022.
 
Rapidly climbing the Coppin State all-time digs list, Figueroa now ranks 9th in CSU history with 693 career digs to go with 150 assists and 70 service aces.
 
The Eagles return to the court on September 4-6 for the West Virginia Invitational.  Coppin starts the three-day Tournament with Liberty at 3 pm on Thursday, followed by North Dakota at 3 pm on Friday and the host Mountaineers at 1 pm on Saturday.  All three matches will air on ESPN+.
