NOKIA, Finland – Former Coppin State women's basketball standout
Laila Lawrence has signed a professional contract with BC Nokia Naiset for the 2025-26 season, it was announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. BC Nokia plays in the Naisten Korisliiga league, the highest tier of women's basketball in Finland.
A native of Lewisville, Texas, Lawrence was named First Team All-Conference and the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year in each of her two seasons with the Eagles after transferring from East Texas A&M. Lawrence averaged 15.2 points (6
th at Coppin) and 10.5 rebounds per game (2
nd at Coppin) in 64 career games with the Eagles and ranks just outside the top ten in both points (971) and rebounds (672). She also blocked 82 shots to rank ninth in CSU history to go with 37 double-doubles.
In her collegiate career, Lawrence totaled 1,675 points and 1,073 rebounds to go with 191 assists, 188 steals and 126 blocks in 129 games.
This past season, Lawrence led the MEAC, and ranked second nationally with 22 double-doubles while also pacing the league with 10.6 rebounds per game, setting a CSU record with 359 total rebounds. Lawrence also finished second in the league in scoring (16.1) and steals (85), fourth in blocks (45) and eighth in assists (81).
Coppin finished 19-15 last season and advanced to the Second Round of the WNIT where it fell to Cleveland State in overtime.
