BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Coppin State's
Daniel Moore has been named the Northeast Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time that Moore has been recognized by the NEC for a weekly award.
A senior shortstop from Benton Harbor, Mich., Moore raised his batting average 69 points by hitting .700 (14-for-20) with nine runs, eight RBI, four doubles, a triple and a walk as the Eagles went 3-1 last week with a series sweep at Delaware State.
Moore opened the week with a 4-for-4 performance against Richmond where he scored twice, drove in three and added a double. He then had at least three hits in each game against the Hornets, opening the series with a three-hit effort where he scored three times, drove in three more and added a double and a walk. In game two, Moore had three more hits with two runs, two RBI and a double before closing the weekend with a 4-for-5 performance where he scored twice with a double and a triple.
For the season, Moore is hitting .326 with nine doubles, a triple, a home run and 24 runs batted in.
The Eagles (13-23, 11-7 NEC) have won nine-straight conference games and stand in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Northeast Conference. Coppin returns to action for a three-game home series on April 25-27 against Le Moyne at Joe Cannon Stadium.
