BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball team fell to Maryland Eastern Shore, 72-59, on Monday night at PEC Arena. The Eagles now stand at 5-23 on the season and 3-10 in the MEAC while the Hawks are now 6-23 overall and 2-11 in league play.

- Every Coppin player that entered the game scored at least five points, led by Jonathan Dunn and Derrius Ward with nine points apiece.
- Two others scored seven points, two more scored six and three Eagles finished with five.
- Ward, Khali Horton and Julius Ellerbe III all had four rebounds, four players had a pair of assists and both Cam'Ron Brown and Toby Nnadozie had two steals.
- Coppin was narrowly outshot, 43.6% to 42.0% but Maryland Eastern Shore hit 10-of-22 (45.5%) from three and 14-of-16 (87.5%) from the line.
- Four Hawks finished in double figures, led by Evan Johnson with 17 points.
How it Happened
- Coppin opened the game on a 7-0 run with Ward opening the game with a layup, followed by five-straight points from Horton, including a three at the 18:28 mark.
- Maryland Eastern Shore got on the board with a three before Horton hit another three, followed by a layup in transition by Oduro.
- The Hawks rallied to tie the score at 16 with 13:22 left in the first and the teams traded a couple of leads before UMES closed the period on a 13-2 run, going into the half with a 36-29 advantage.
- The Eagles made it a one-possession game a couple times early in the second half, but Eastern Shore went on a 18-5 run, opening up its largest lead at 66-50 with just under four minutes left.
- A dunk by Dunn with just under a minute left cut the deficit to 70-59 before fouling out at the other end of the floor.
