WBB to play in 2025 WNIT

Women’s Hoops Selected to Participate in 27th Annual Postseason WNIT

| By:
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Coppin State women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the 27th annual Postseason WNIT, powered by Triple Crown Sports, it was announced on Sunday night. The Tournament will release its full bracket on Monday with matchups, locations and start times for the opening round will be held on March 20-22.

The Eagles (18-14) earned an at-large bid to the 48-team Tournament after recording their most victories since the 2011-12 season and make their first postseason appearance since playing in the 2009 WNIT. Coppin won a program-record nine non-conference games, highlighted by victories over Big 12 member Arizona State, defending MAC Champion Kent State and historic regional power George Washington.

Laila Lawrence, the back-to-back MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference selection Angel Jones, lead the way for Coppin, combining to average 31.3 points per game.  Lawrence, who ranks third nationally in double-doubles (21), is the only player nationwide to average 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.  Jones ranked fifth in the MEAC in scoring (14.8) and third in assists (3.6).

"Our longstanding belief has always been that women's college basketball demanded the respect that comes with a genuine postseason challenge outside the standard tournament," said Sarah Sullivan, WNIT director. "For more than a generation, we've been there to celebrate the determination and hard work of players, coaches and staff that helped make the sport so great. Others have tried to copy our model, but for pure excitement and the kind of competitive environment that lifts programs higher, the Postseason WNIT set the standard before the turn of the century."
