ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Coppin State's men's basketball team fell on the road to Navy, 88-55, on Friday night at Alumni Hall. The Eagles fell to 2-13 on the season while the Midshipmen improved to 7-5 overall.
Hussain Williams led Coppin in scoring with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting to go with a pair of 3-pointers while
Torrin Andrews also was in double figures with 11 points. They were followed by
Hassan Perkins with nine and both
Tyler Koenig and
Nelson Lamizana with seven points apiece. Williams, Lamizana and Perkins all had a pair of assists.
Taj Thweatt led the Eagles with eight rebounds as both Lamizana and Koenig blocked two shots each. Thweatt also had a pair of steals, but Coppin was unable to contain a balanced Navy offense that shot 50.9% from the floor with four players in double figures.
Navy started the game with ten-straight points, but Coppin rallied to within 20-18 with 7:29 left in the first half as threes from Williams and Perkins sandwiched a midrange jumper by Lamizana. The Mids built their lead back to 36-24 at the half and outscored Coppin, 52-31, in the second half.
