NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Sydney Burris has been named the MEAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly award that Burris has earned in an Eagles uniform.
A senior from Milwaukee, Wisc., Burris averaged 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals to go with 7.5 points per game last week as the Eagles battled a pair of the Nation's best teams at the GEICO Coconut Hoops MTE.
Burris scored four points with seven rebounds and a steal against 8
th-ranked Oklahoma before tallying a double-double 11 points and 14 rebounds against Missouri State two nights later. She added two assists and two steals against the Bears and her 14 rebounds were a career high.
For the season, Burris is averaging 3.8 points and ranks second on the Eagles with 5.1 rebounds per game and nine steals. Burris leads the team with four blocked shots and is shooting a team-high 80% from the free throw, hitting 12-of-15 shots from the stripe.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, December 3 when they host Marshall in a 6 pm tipoff on ESPN+.
