NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Coco Figueroa has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the third time this season that Figueroa has won the award which leads the league.
A junior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa averaged 5.00 digs/set and 1.42 assists/set to go with four service aces last week. Figueroa opened the week with 21 digs and six assists against UMBC before starting the weekend with 17 digs and five assists along with an ace at South Carolina State. She closed the weekend with a 22-dig performance at N.C. Central while serving up three aces and six assists.
Figueroa leads the MEAC with 506 digs and 4.77 digs/set this season while adding 147 assists (1.39/set) and 32 aces. She also leads the league with 12 matches with at least 20 digs and she's put up double-digit digs in 24 of her 27 matches. Nationally, Figueroa ranks fourth in total digs and 23
rd in digs/set.
In her career, Figueroa ranks third in CSU history with 1,125 digs and seventh with 97 service aces. Her 506 digs already this season are the third-most in Coppin single-season history, joining MEAC all-time leader
Ashley Roman as the only CSU players to post over 500 digs in a season.
