BALTIMORE – Coppin State senior baseball player
Samuel Nieves has been selected to play in the HBCU Swingman Classic, presented by T-Mobile, on July 12 at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series Champions Texas Rangers. Nieves is the fourth Eagles player to be selected for the Classic as former CSU players

The inaugural HBCU swingman Classic was held last season and is an annual All-Star experience for baseball student-athletes from Division I Historically Black Colleges & Universities. The student-athletes were selected by a committee that included Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., alongside representatives from MLB and Scouts and the MLBPA.
An outfielder from South Plainfield, N.J., Nieves started his collegiate career at Division III Stockton University where he was an ABCA All-Region and All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) selection in 2022. This past season, Nieves hit .296 with four home runs and 32 RBI while leading the team with 17 steals while playing primarily at center field and batting cleanup.
