DURHAM, N.C. – Ryan Archey scored a game-high 19 points as Coppin State's men's basketball team fell at NC Central, 77-46 on Saturday afternoon at McDougald-McLendon Arena. Coppin fell to 2-18 overall and 1-5 in the MEAC while NCCU improved to 13-8 on the year and 5-1 in league play.
A freshman from Clinton, Md., Archey made 7-of-18 shots from the floor with one 3-pointer and all four of his free throws. Archey also pulled down four rebounds.
Greg Spurlock finished with nine points, followed by
Camaren Sparrow with seven,
Justin Winston with five,
Darryon Prescott with four and
Khali Horton with a bucket. Prescott recorded a season-high ten rebounds while Sparrow and Winston had five apiece.
NC Central outshot Coppin, 46.8% to 28.6% with 11 3-pointers.
How it Happened
- Coppin held a small lead for the first several minutes of the first half, but Central ran off ten-straight points before Archey stopped a scoring drought with a pair of free throws at the 7:50 mark to get the deficit back to single digits.
- After another 5-0 run by NCCU, Archey drained a three to keep it within ten with 6:44 left, but Central pulled away to take a 48-28 halftime lead.
- CSU was unable to get back into the game in the second half, missing on all 13 of its 3-point attempts and shooting 27.6% from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
