Brockington, Harrison Lead Bowling to 11th Place Finish at CSU Lady Eagles Invitational

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's bowling team finished 11th of 16 teams at a competitive CSU Lady Eagles Invitational over the weekend at AMF Woodlawn Lanes. The Eagles finished 5-4 overall with 8,249 total pins for an average of 179.3 per game.
 
Freshman Abigail Brockington finished 15th of 110 bowlers in traditional matches, averaging 194.00 pins over five matches. A native of Greensboro, N.C., Brockington opened the Tournament with a 230 in Coppin's 985-929 victory over Belmont Abbey. Brockington also rolled a 226 in a 904-654 win vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, and a 194 in the 919-857 victory over Molloy. She accumulated an 82.0 overall fill percentage while also leading the Eagles with 21 strikes.
 
Classmate Shenae Harrison finished just behind Brockington with a 189.60 average, with 948 pins over the five matches.  She also started strong with a 236 against Belmont Abbey and added a 199 against Molloy to finish 21st overall. A freshman from Chesterfield, Va., Harrison matched Brockington with 21 strikes and converted on 14-of-15 single-pin spare attempts.
 
Harrison continued her strong play into Sunday, averaging 20.12 pins per frame in Baker style matches while totaling an 83.3 overall fill percentage.  She finished just behind Shakyia Johnson with 22 strikes while Johnson posted 23 with 19.14 pins per frame and a 78.6 overall fill percentage.
 
In Sunday's Baker matches, the Eagles fell to Kutztown, 962-907 despite a 263 by the Eagles in the second game which featured a streak of eight consecutive strikes. Coppin followed with an 840-830 victory over Caldwell.  In Bracket play to follow, Caldwell bested the Eagles, 4-3, before Coppin breezed past MEAC rival Norfolk State, 4-0.
 
Johnson, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., followed up in 38th place (179.20) during traditional play, rolling a 223 against Belmont Abbey and a 190 in a loss to Tournament champion, Felician.  Freshman Blessing Lawrence was also in the top half of bowlers in 50th place, averaging a 169.00 with a 182 vs. St. Thomas Aquinas and 188 against Molloy. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Victoria Davis with a 147.2 average, topping out with a 166 vs. Molloy.
 
The Eagles close the Fall season portion of their schedule on November 22-24 at Monmouth's Garden State Classic, held at Howell Lanes in Howell, N.J.
