Three Eagles Score in Doubles Figures as Men’s Hoops Falls at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three Eagles scored in double figures as Coppin State's men's basketball team fell at Miami, 93-63 on Sunday afternoon at Watsco Center.  Coppin fell to 0-6 on the season while the Hurricanes remain unbeaten at 3-0.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Julius Ellerbe III led the Eagles with 14 points on 3-of-8 shooting while hitting 8-of-13 from the line. He added three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
  • Toby Nnadozie and Khali Horton pitched in with 11 points and three rebounds apiece.  Nnadozie was also credited with two assists and a steal while Horton had a block and two steals.
  • Jonathan Dunn had a team-high eight rebounds to go with eight points and Peter Oduro scored34 a career-high nine points while making all four of his shots from the floor.
  • Cam'Ron Brown tacked on six points with four assists and Darius Leonard scored his first collegiate points on a pair of free throws.
  • Coppin shot 41.1% from the floor compared to Miami's 56.3%, and the Hurricanes also made 14-of-27 (51.9%) from deep.
  • The Eagles committed just eight turnovers on the day, their lowest amount of the season.
  • Six Miami players scored in double figures, led by Matthew Cleveland with 15 points.
How it Happened
  • Miami scored the game's first five points before a layup by Dunn put Coppin on the board at the 17:01 mark of the first.
  • Dunn answered a three by the Hurricanes, and after a bucker from Oduro, Miami went on a 13-4 run over the next six-plus minutes to double its lead to 32-14.
  • Ellerbe hit three free throws late in the half as Coppin trailed, 43-19, at the break.
  • Ellerbe scored seven of the team's first nine points of the second half, including an old-fashioned three-point play at the under-16 media timeout.
  • The Hurricanes answered with seven-straight points to reach their largest lead of the game at 58-28 with 13:16 remaining, and the Eagles got no closer than a 22-point deficit.
