FAIRFAX, Va. – Career efforts by
Toby Nnadozie,
Julius Ellerbe III and
Peter Oduro were not enough as the Coppin State men's basketball team fell at George Mason, 93-55 on Wednesday night at EagleBank Arena. The Eagles fell to 0-7 on the season while the Patriots evened their record at 3-3.
Inside the Numbers
- Nnadozie one-upped his career-high, finishing with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting and three 3-pointers, to go with five rebounds and four steals.
- Nnadozie got stronger as the game went on, tallying ten points with two 3-pointers and three steals in the second half.
- Ellerbe notched the first career double-double of his career, tallying career-highs in points (16) and rebounds (12) to go with three assists. He also made 9-of-11 free throws to match a career-high.
- Thirteen of Ellerbe's points came in the second half as he hit 6-of-7 from the line in the period.
- Oduro made his return to GMU where he started his career and finished with a career-high 13 points on 6-of-11 from the field.
- The rest of the Eagles managed just seven points on 3-of-19 shooting.
- George Mason got 21 points apiece from Zach Anderson and Giovanni Emejuru and outshot Coppin, 60.4% to 33.3%.
- CSU turned the ball over 17 times which turned into 24 points for the Patriots.
How it Happened
- George Mason opened the game on a 12-2 run with Oduro hitting a jumper for Coppin at the 17:21 mark.
- After a free throw by Ellerbe made it a 19-7 game, GMU scored 14 of the next 16 points to extend its lead.
- The hosts led by as many as 48-21 at the halftime buzzer and continued to extend their lead throughout the second half.
