NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Coco Figueroa has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the third time this season that Figueroa has earned the weekly award.
A sophomore from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa averaged 4.44 digs and 1.11 assists per set while adding four aces as the Eagles split a pair of conference matches over the weekend. Figueroa opened with 17 digs, five assists and four aces in a four-set win at Norfolk State before tallying a match-high 23 digs to go with five digs and a pair of kills in Coppin's five-set loss to Howard. Her defense helped the Eagles take two sets from the Bison, who had not lost a set in conference play.
Figueroa leads the MEAC with 227 digs and 4.54 digs/set in conference games. Her 387 total digs on the year also lead the league. She also ranks second on the Eagles with 34 aces (0.33/set) and third with 103 assists (1.00/set).
The Eagles (14-15, 10-3 MEAC) wrap up the regular season at Morgan State on Friday, November 5 at 6:00 pm. Coppin will then head to Dover, Del., for the MEAC Tournament on November 22-24 in hopes of defending its 2023 conference title.
