GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coppin State's bowling team competed at the MEAC Meet #1 over the weekend, finishing 1-6 in baker matches with 6,197 total pins to average 177.1 per frame at Triad Lanes. The Eagles currently sit sixth in the team standings, just ahead of Howard and Norfolk State.
Opening the Tournament with a victory against Howard, Coppin put together a whopping 1,031 pins to Howard's 932. CSU's total against the Bison was the sixth-highest posted by any team over the weekend.
Coppin then dropped matches to #6 North Carolina A&T, 1,049-910, #16 Maryland Eastern Shore, 985-789, Alabama-Birmingham, 1,036-954 and #23 Delaware State, 973-797. Norfolk State then edged the Eagles by a single pin, 856-855, before Coppin dropped its final match to Morgan State, 897-861.
Blessing Lawrence led the way for the Eagles, averaging 19.24 per frame with an 85.7 overall fill percentage. A freshman from Providence, R.I., Lawrence posted a team-high 29 strikes while converting 75.6% of her spares and 87.5% of makeable spares.
Victoria Davis also played well throughout the tournament, averaging 18.69 per frame with an 84.3 overall fill percentage. She matched freshman
Shenae Harrison with 26 strikes while converting 75.0% of her spares. Harrison averaged 17.35 pins per frame to rank third on the squad.
Abigail Brockington and
Shakyia Johnson finished with 16.51 and 16.45 pins per frame, respectively.
The Eagles will host the CSU Lady Eagles Invitational on November 16-17 at AMF Woodlawn Lanes in Gwynn Oak, Md.
