NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Angel Jones has been named the MEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday night. This is the second time this season that Jones has received the award.
A sophomore from Alexandria, Va., Jones led the Eagles to a pair of wins to open conference play last week, averaging 21.5 points, while shooting 58.3% from the floor, with six 3-pointers, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Jones matched a career-high with 22 points in Saturday's win at Delaware State where she also buried a career-high four threes to go with five rebounds and four assists. Two nights later in a comeback victory against Maryland Eastern Shore, Jones went for 21 points on 9-of-11 free throws along with four rebounds and a pair of steals.
For the season, Jones is averaging 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting an impressive 40.5% from 3-point range. Jones leads the MEAC in scoring and field goals in conference play while ranking second in 3-pointers and fourth in field goal percentage.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 20 when they host archrival Morgan State in a 2 pm tipoff on ESPN+.
