CARY, N.C. – Vansh Kapoor picked up a singles victory as Coppin State's men's tennis team dropped its MEAC opener to North Carolina Central, 6-1, on Thursday morning at Cary Tennis Park. With the loss, CSU falls to 0-6 on the season.
Kapoor defeated NC Central's Oliver Saarinen, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to pick up Coppin's lone point of the day.
NC Central picked up the singles point with a narrow, 7-5 win over
Luka Markovic and Kapoor at No. 1 doubles while
Isaac Sanders and
Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov, fell, 6-1 in the second slot.
Anas Haddou and
Rishi Jalota were tied at 5-5 in the third flight when Central clinched the point.
Haddou won the opening set over Naresh Bharathy, 4-6, before dropping the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Markovic won seven games in the first flight in the straight set loss while Jalota took the second set to a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles.
Coppin will face Norfolk State in the second day of the MEAC Roundup on March 17 before facing South Carolina State the following day.
