BALTIMORE, MD.- Coppin State Men's Basketball earned their first victory of the 2023-24 season against UMBC for a final score of 89-70. This marks the first win for the Eagles under first year Head Coach Larry Stewart. Justin Winston had a career high double-double with 37 points and13 rebounds to match Larry Stewart, Terquin Mott, and Sam Sessoms' at ninth all time in CSU history for single game points.

Aa'Reyon Munir-Jones set a season high nine points, and led the team with three assists.

Greg Spurlock, Preist Ryan, and Zahree Harrison record eight points a piece. Spurlock was second on the team in rebounds with six boards.

As a team, the Eagles set a season high from beyond the arch tallying eight three point field-goals made along with a season high in team assists with 15 collectively.

Coppin and UMBC endured eight lead exchanges throughout the first half.

Winston had eighteen points alone in the first half.

Harrison hit an and one three pointer to pull a four-point lead to close the half 39-35.

Winston scored nine straight points for Coppin at the start of the second half to place Coppin up with a double digit scoring margin (48-37).

The Eagles went on an 8-0 run consisting with a pair of threes from Munir-Jones and Sparrow followed by a step back in transition from Spurlock (58-41).

UMBC responded with a 7-1 run to cut twenty point game down to 11 with 5:21 remaining in the half (70-59).

Archey, Sparrow, and Spurlock counter punched with a 7-0 run to put Coppin up by 78-61 with under five minutes left of play.

Winston brought the biggest lead of the game in the final seconds a floater to place Coppin up by 21.

UMBC could not bounce back from the deficit, resulting an 89-70 victory for the Eagles.
