MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Coppin State's bowling team finished sixth of eight schools after going 6-7 overall at the Virginia Union Invitational this weekend at Bowl America Southwest.
The Eagles opened the Tournament with Baker matches on Friday and picked up victories over Elizabeth City State to open the day, and Howard in the third match of the afternoon. Coppin routed ECSU, 765-533, before falling to Alabama A&M, 835-760. Twenty pins was the margin as the Navy & Gold bested their MEAC rival from the Nation's Capital, before falling to Fayetteville State and Delaware State.
Coppin won the first three traditional matches on Saturday with victories over Virginia State (858-443), Virginia Union (721-679) and Elizabeth City State (825-570). The Eagles then fell to Alabama A&M (836-814) and Howard (812-708).
Victoria Davis led Coppin once again with her consistent play, totaling 811 pins for a 162.20 average, followed by
Alexandria Madigan with 804 pins and a 160.80 average. Penn and Muckle were just behind with 788 (157.60) and 783 (156.60), respectively.
Madigan led the way in the win over Virginia State with a 202, followed by
Taylor Penn (182),
Madison Muckle (177) and Davis (167).
Shakyia Johnson and Penn led CSU in the victory over Virginia Union while Madigan (186), Davis (180) and Muckle (170) helped Coppin to its win over ECSU. Muckle and Davis rolled a 183 and 179, respectively, against Alabama A&M and Davis had a high of 166 against Howard.
Sunday's bracket style play featured three best-of-seven Baker style matches with Coppin falling to Virginia Union before bouncing back with a dominating victory over Virginia State. The Eagles won game three against Virginia Union before falling, 4-1.
The Eagles host MEAC Meet #1 on November 11-12 at AMF Woodlawn.
