BALTIMORE – Despite four Eagles scoring double figures, Coppin State's men's basketball team fell to Norfolk State, 96-65 on Saturday afternoon at PEC Arena. CSU falls to 6-15 overall and 1-3 in the MEAC while the Spartans improve to 13-6 with a 3-1 mark in league play.
Inside the Numbers
- Sam Sessoms led Coppin with 19 points and five assists while reaching double figures for the 100th time in his career. Sessoms now has 2,160 career points and 496 assists.
- Nendah Tarke added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals while Mike Hood and Kam'Ron Blue finished with 13 points and ten points, respectively.
- Malik Battle, Daniel Titus and Greg Spurlock combined for nine points as the Eagles shot 37.0% from the floor compared to 59.3% for the Spartans.
- Coppin took a season-high 39 3-pointers, making 11 on the night for a 28.2 percent clip. The Eagles hit 14-of-19 from the line and were outrebounded, 42-27.
- Caheim Brown led all players with 21 points while Kris Bankston had a double-double 19 points and 13 rebounds. Joe Bryant and George Beale also had 17 points each.
How it Happened
- After Norfolk State scored the first five points of the game, Sessoms and Hood buried threes to keep the game close at 9-6 with 15:49 left in the first.
- The Spartans went on a 16-0 run before a layup from Tarke, followed by another three by Hood at the 11:41 mark.
- Hood and Sessoms kept CSU alive with two more threes but CSU went without a field goal for the final six minutes as NSU went into the half with a 49-24 lead.
- In the second half, Coppin got no closer than 72-50 after a three from Tarke with 8:31 remaining in regulation.
- After Tarke's triple, NSU went on a 14-2 run to keep the game out of reach.
