Sessoms Leads All Players with 23 Points in Men’s Hoops Loss at Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a game-high 23 points from Sam Sessoms, Coppin State's men's basketball team fell at Howard, 90-76, on Monday night at Burr Gymnasium.  The Eagles fall to 6-16 overall and 1-4 in the MEAC while the Bison improve to 12-10 on the year with a 4-1 mark in league play.  
  
Inside the Numbers 

·        Sessoms hit 9-of-17 from the floor with three 3-pointers while also leading the Eagles with seven rebounds.  It was the 14th time this season (44th career) that Sessoms went for at least 20 points and after recording two more assists, he has 2,183 points and 498 assists in his career.
·        Nendah Tarke added 13 points while Mike Hood and Daniel Titus record 12 points apiece. Tarke was credited with four rebounds and a team-high three assists while Hood matched Sessoms with three triples.
·        Titus had one of his best games of the season, hitting 4-of-7 from the floor with a pair of threes along with two assists, two steals and a block.
·        Alex Rojas hit a pair of threes for six points and Justin Steers chipped in with four points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
·        Howard put four players in double figures and outshot Coppin, 47.7% to 42.9% while making 20-of-29 free throws.  The Bison also outrebounded CSU, 47-32, got 33 points from its bench and turned 12 offensive rebounds into 11 second-chance points.

How it Happened 

·        Following a Howard three to open the game, Titus went to the hole for a dunk and hit the free throw to tie the score.
·        Hood matched a Bison three with one of his own and Tarke hit another to cut the deficit to 10-9 at the 16:17 mark.
·        Howard then went on a 10-0 run before a three from Rojas before the Bison re-extended its lead back to 30-20 with 6:39 remaining.
·        Titus hit back-to-back threes to pull CSU within four before Sessoms asserted himself on the scoring end with Coppin's next eight points.
·        Hood buried a three just before the buzzer sounded to make it a 41-37 Howard lead at the half.
·        Coppin got within, 43-42 as Tarke and Hood each hit 1-of-2 free throws before Howard upped its advantage with an 8-0 run.
·        The Eagles got no closer than a six-point margin despite 15 second-half points from Sessoms, all coming in the final 9:14.
