BALTIMORE – Laura Harper, who guided Coppin State's women's basketball team to one of the largest turnarounds in the Nation this past season and was named the 2022 MEAC Coach of the Year, has accepted the head coaching position at Towson University. Associate head coach Jermaine Woods will now be handling all day-to-day operations.
"I am so grateful for the team at Coppin State from President Anthony Jenkins to AD Derek Carter to SWA Nichole Person," said Harper. "I am so grateful for them betting on me and believing in me."
During the 2021-22 season, the Eagles won a school-record six games against Division I non-conference opponents and had their first winning season since the 2013-14 campaign. Jaia Alexander was named the 2021-22 MEAC Player of the Year while Aliyah Lawson also earned First Team All-MEAC honors. Mossi Staples also earned Third Team recognition while Jalynda Salley and Jewel Watkins earned All-Defensive Team and All-Rookie Team accolades, respectively.
"We want to thank Coach Harper for her service to the University and the athletic department," said Coppin State Director of Athletics Derek Carter. "It was a privilege to work with her and we wish her nothing but the best at Towson."
