Brown, Johnson Named to All-Tournament Teams; Bowling Takes Third at TNBA HBCU Invitational

ATLANTA – Logan Brown and TaVera Johnson were both named to the All-Tournament Team, leading the Coppin State bowling team to a third-place finish at the TNBA HBCU Invitational, hosted by Jackson State University over the weekend at Fun Time Bowl. The Eagles recorded 11,553 total pins in 67 total games to average 172.4 per game.
 
Finishing third overall to make the All-Tournament First Team, Brown tallied 956 total pins to average a 191.20 in five traditional matches.  Brown opened the Tournament with a 188 against Morgan State and had a high of 243 against Southern.  She followed up with a 194 against Alabama State.
 
Johnson took eighth of 73 bowlers with 917 total pins to average a 183.40 and make the Second Team. Opening traditional play with a 182 against Morgan State, Johnson followed with a 223 against Alabama A&M and 180 against Southern.
 
Jalyne Myers continued her improved play with a 175.00 average, accumulating 875 total pins.  Rolling a 208 against Southern, Myers added a 181 against Alabama State.
 
Finishing just behind Myers was Kaylah Castillo at 172.80.  Temira White totaled 566 total pins in four matches to average a 141.50 while Alexia Alston rolled a 146 in her lone match against Alabama A&M.
 
The Eagles opened the Tournament with Baker style matches on Friday where they went 2-3 with victories over Norfolk State and Grambling.  Coppin finished with an impressive 4,270 total pins in those matches despite falling to Bowie State, Texas Southern and Fayetteville State.
 
Saturday's matches consisted of five traditional games and the Navy & Gold started with three-straight wins over nationally ranked Morgan State, Alabama A&M and Southern. Coppin was edged by just two pins against Alabama State before falling to Florida A&M.
 
Coppin fell to Florida A&M in six games to open Bracket Style play on Sunday before bouncing back with a 4-3 victory against Southern.  The Eagles then swept Alabama State, 4-0 in the third-place match.
