NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Josh Hankins has been named the MEAC Baseball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly award of Hankins' career and he is the second Eagles player this season to be named the MEAC Rookie of the Week (
Landen Argabright).
A freshman infielder from Boothwyn, Pa., Hankins batted a team-high .583 (7-for-12) with four runs scored, four RBI, a pair of walks and a pair of stolen bases in three game series against Cornell over the weekend. Hankins opened the series with a 2-for-3 performance again the Big Red where he drove in a pair of runs and drew a walk. In game two of the doubleheader, Hankins collected another base hit and an RBI.
In Sunday's series finale, Hankins went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Hankins also stole a pair of bases.
For the season, Hankins is batting .333 with a double and five RBI while leading the team with three stolen bases and a .471 on-base percentage.
