BALTIMORE - With two Eagles scoring in double figures, Coppin State'smens basketball team fell to Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon at PEC Arena with a final score of 89-59. The Eagles fall to 4-6 in the MEAC while the Spartans improve to 9-1 in conference play.
Nendah Tarke led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Justin Steers was the Eagles second leading scorer with ten points and five boards, while shooting 4-of-6 from the stripe.
Kyle Cardaci tallied nine points, grabbed two steals and hit two threes.
Daniel Titus chipped in with six points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Eagles kept it close at the start of the game. Coppin provoked foul trouble for Norfolk in the first half, as the Eagles hit five straight free throws to turn cut Norfolk's lead to just two points.
Mike Hood scored five points in under ten minutes to force a 16-16 tie at the 6:21. After a free throw by Cardaci at 3:39 cut the deficit to 23-22, Norfolk closed the half on a 12-1 run to lead 35-23 at the half.
Tarke opened the second half with six straight points for Coppin, but the Spartans continued the momentum from the final minutes of the first period. Norfolk extended its advantage to 20 points just minutes in and never looked back.
Norfolk outshot Coppin 46.9 percent to Coppin's 32.9 percent, with a whopping 9 three-pointers.
