NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Mossi Staples has been named the MEAC women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. This is the first time this season, and the third time of her career, that she has been named the conference Player of the Week.
A redshirt junior from Fort Washington, Md., Staples averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of games for the Eagles last week. Staples opened the week by matching a season-high with 21 points to go with five rebounds and five assists at Syracuse before posting a career-night in a victory at Saint Francis University.
Against the Red Flash, Staples recorded a career-high 26 points and her four 3-pointers and ten free throws were also career bests. Staples added four rebounds, two assists and three steals in the win.
Staples is averaging a team-high 14.0 points and leads the Eagles with 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Her 4.1 rebounds are fourth on the team. Within the MEAC, Staples ranks first in total points, second in assists, third in points per game and fifth in steals.
