HUNTINGTON, W.V. – Coppin State's three-game win streak came to an end in an 86-67 loss at Marshall on Saturday night at the Cam Henderson Center. The Eagles are now 3-3 on the season while the Thundering Herd improve to 3-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Sam Sessoms led the Eagles with 19 points along with three assists and matched Kam'Ron Blue for a team-high eight rebounds.
- Mike Hood and Justin Winston also reached double figures with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Blue added eight points with four steals and Nendah Tarke chipped in with six points.
- Marshall narrowly outshot Coppin, 43 percent to 41 percent but took advantage of a 49-33 advantage on the boards to tally 20 second-chance points and 19 points off turnovers.
- Three players scored in double figures for the Herd, led by Taevion Kinsey with 23.
How it Happened
- Marshall took an early 9-0 lead but Coppin regrouped , pulling to within 26-25 on a layup by Tarke at the 7:25 mark.
- Following a pair of buckets by the Herd, Coppin tied it at 30-30 after a three by Hood and a layup from Winston.
- Marshall answered with ten-straight points and closed the half on a 17-2 run to take a 47-32 lead into the break.
- Coppin got as close as 58-48 with just under 16:00 minutes to play as Alex Rojas hit a three and another jumper, sandwiching a three by Blue.
- The Herd began to pull away with a 13-2 run and never looked back.
