BALTIMORE – Andrea Tsvetanova opened the match with four-straight aces and the Eagles never looked back as Coppin State swept Norfolk State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) on Friday night at PEC Arena. The win puts CSU alone in first place in the MEAC with a 13-7 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in league play.
Inside the Numbers
- The Nation's leader in aces, Tsvetanova recorded five on the night along with a double-double 32 assists and ten digs. Tsvetanova now has 63 aces on the season and quarterbacked the Eagles to a .253 hitting percentage.
- Tsvetanova also went over the 1,500 career assists mark, becoming just the fourth Eagles player to reach the milestone.
- Ammaarah Williams had a match-high 12 kills while hitting .357 on 28 attempts to go with nine digs.
- Miajavon Coleman and Hope Casel recorded nine kills apiece and Ahzhi Coleman had an errorless four kills.
- Defensively, Ashley Roman was credited with 14 digs and Geraldyn Palacios finished with two blocks.
- The Eagles held NSU to a .051 hitting percentage.
How it Happened
- After Tsvetanova's four aces, Coppin got four-straight kills from the Coleman sisters and Casel to increase its advantage to 8-0.
- Norfolk answered with a 4-0 run, but the four-point differential was the closest the score got in the opening set.
- Coppin broke it open with a pair of 5-0 runs and Tsvetanova added another ace late in the frame.
- In the second set, the teams traded leads early on before Coppin took the lead for good on a 3-0 run that was started with a kill from Miajavon Coleman.
- NSU cut the deficit to a single point four times late in the frame but three Spartans error and a kill from Williams gave the Navy & Gold a 2-0 lead.
- The start of the third set started much like the second but CSU opened it up with a 7-1 lead which featured a kill from Tsvetanova and a three Spartans errors.
- Norfolk got no closer than three points the remainder of the way as Williams put down a pair of kills, sandwiching a kill from Ahzhi Coleman to finish it.
