NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Andrea Tsvetanova received MEAC Volleyball Setter of the Week and
Ahzhi Coleman was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday morning.
Coleman averaged 1.50 blocks and 1.88 kills per set in a pair of wins last week to earn her first-ever MEAC weekly award. A sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, Coleman put up ten kills and a career-high seven blocks to lead all players against Norfolk State. Coleman added a match-high five blocks with five kills in a sweep of Howard two days later.
For the season, Coleman ranks third on the Eagles with 0.63 blocks per set and fourth with 47 total blocks. Coleman also has 110 kills (1.47 per set) while hitting .224.
Tsvetanova picked up her sixth Setter of the Week award of the season after averaging 10.13 assists and 2.25 digs last week. A senior from Sofia, Bulgaria, Tsvetanova recorded a double-double 49 assists and ten digs to go with four kills, an ace and two blocks at Norfolk State. In the victory over Howard, Tsvetanova recorded 32 assists with eight digs and two aces.
The Nation's leader with 81 aces and 0.78 aces per set, Tsvetanova broke a MEAC record for aces in a season since the NCAA adopted a 25-point set scoring system in 2008. Tsvetanova also ranks second in the MEAC with 9.09 assists per set while adding 2.32 digs per set.
CSU hosts Maryland Eastern Shore for Senior Night on Friday, November 4 at 7 pm.
Yaniris Miller-Green will be honored prior to the game as she will play in her final match at PEC Arena.
