NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Ashley Roman was named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week while
Andrea Tsvetanova once again received Setter of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
This is the second-straight time and fourth time this season that Roman earned Defensive Player accolades while Tsvetanova earned Setter of the Week for the third-straight week and fourth time of the season.
A senior from Isabela, Puerto Rico, Roman moved into second place on the MEAC's all-time digs list with 1,689 after turning in 16 in a sweep of Morgan State this past weekend. Roman also recorded a pair of service aces, moving into the top ten in the Eagles' career list, and three assists.
Roman continues to lead the MEAC with 5.03 digs per set this season which ranks 20
th nationally. She has tallied 362 total digs on the year which is the second-most in the Nation.
Tsvetanova racked up 32 assists, seven digs, two aces and two blocks in Coppin's sweep of the Bears, a match that put the Eagles in sole possession of first place in the MEAC. A senior from Sofia, Bulgaria, Tsvetanova quarterbacked the offensive to a .314 hitting percentage while setting the program single season for aces with a Nation's leading 58 on the year.
The Eagles (12-7, 3-0 MEAC) host Norfolk State at 6 pm on Friday, October 7 at PEC Arena.
