Volleyball Breaks School-Record for Wins with 3-2 Victory at NC Central

DURHAM, N.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team needed five sets to defeat North Carolina Central University on Sunday afternoon at McDougald-McLendon Arena.  With the win, CSU recorded its 17th victory of the season, setting a new single-season school record and maintaining its lead in the MEAC with an 8-1 mark in league play.

Inside the Numbers

  • Ammaarah Williams once again did a lot of damage against her former team, notching a double-double 17 kills and 11 digs while adding five aces.
  • Ahzhi Coleman and Miajavon Coleman added eight kills apiece with Ahzhi Coleman tallying a career-high six blocks while Miajavon Coleman was credited with a career-high 25 digs.
  • Hope Casel put up seven kills in just three sets and Geraldyn Palacios chipped in with six kills.
  • Andrea Tsvetanova posted season-highs of 55 assists and 18 digs, leading the CSU offense to a .219 hitting percentage while NC Central hit just .148.
  • Ashley Roman finished with a match-high 26 digs and added six assists.
How it Happened

  • The third set featured nine ties and six lead changes with the hosts coming out on top, 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • Coppin came right back to hit .263 in the fourth set, scoring the first six points, to force a deciding set.  Miller-Green was extra impressive in the session, tallying seven kills while Roman was credited with ten digs.
  • CSU hit a match-high .286 in the fifth as Williams and Casel combined for seven kills and no errors.
  • Coppin never trailed in the decider, but with teams tied at 3-3, pulled away with 6-1 run featuring a pair of kills from Casel.
  • NC Central pulled to within 11-8 to force a CSU timeout but Miller-Green recorded three kills down the stretch to win it for the Navy & Gold.
