Geraldyn Palacios has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first-ever weekly honor bestowed upon Palacios.
A junior from Medellin, Colombia, Palacios averaged 1.43 blocks per set in a pair of Eagles victories last week. Palacios opened the week with a pair of blocks and three kills in a victory at Maryland Eastern Shore before posting eight blocks and five kills in Coppin's five-set win over Delaware State. Her last kill against the Hornets was the game-winning
For the season, Palacios has tallied a team-high 64 blocks, 0.90 blocks per set and .28 hitting percentage. She also ranks fifth on the Eagles in kills (108) and kills/set (1.52). Palacios currently ranks fourth in the MEAC in blocks and sixth in hitting while increasing her production in MEAC play with a .316 hitting percentage (7
th) and 0.96 blocks per set (5
th).
Palacios and the Eagles open a three-match road trip, starting with South Carolina State on Friday, October 21, followed by North Carolina Central two days later.
