PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State's
Ammaarah Williams and
Miajavon Coleman both reached double digits in kills while
Andrea Tsvetanova served another five aces in a 3-1 (25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20) MEAC victory at Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday night. The Eagles are currently tied for first in the MEAC with a 5-1 record in league play to go with a 14-8 overall mark.
Inside the Numbers
- Williams led all players with 12 kills while adding eight digs, an ace and a pair of blocks.
- Coleman hit .360 on the night with 11 kills and just two errors on 25 attacks. She also recorded seven digs and a pair of aces.
- Ahzhi Coleman added six kills, followed by Yaniris Miller-Green with five and both Geraldyn Palacios and Hope Casel with three kills apiece.
- Andrea Tsvetanova finished with 30 assists, five aces, six digs, a team-high four blocks and matched a career-high with five kills without an error. The Nation's leader in total aces, Tsvetanova now has 69 on the season.
- Ashley Roman tied for a match-high 17 digs as Coppin outhit the Hawks, .174 to .121.
How it Happened
- Coppin rallied from an 11-6 deficit in the opening set to eventually tie the score at 19-19.
- A kill by Miajavon Coleman gave the Eagles their first lead since the opening points of the set at 21-20 and she continued to keep the team ahead with another kill and a solo block.
- After a Hawks kill tied the score at 23-23, Coppin forced an error before Roman finished off the frame with an ace.
- Coppin began to pull away in the second set with a 7-0 run which featured a pair of points apiece from Williams and Tsvetanova.
- UMES pulled to within, 16-10, but Coppin took the second set with a trio of 3-0 runs, culminating with a kill from Miller-Green and an ace by Williams.
- Despite three aces in a four-point stretch that gave Coppin a 14-10 advantage in the third, the Eagles were unable to pull off the sweep.
- The Hawks rallied with a 9-1 run to take a 23-19 lead and continued to hold off the Navy & Gold.
- Coppin matched a season-high with 19 kills in the fourth set as it only trailed after the first point of the set.
- The Coleman sisters and Miller-Green recorded three-straight kills and Coppin never looked back.
- With the Hawks pulling to within, 20-17, Tsvetanova tallied a kill and followed right up with an ace.
- UMES did not go away, recording three-straight points but Miajavon Coleman stopped the run with a kill and an ace before Palacios sealed the match with a kill.
