Volleyball Opens 2021 Season at Georgia Southern's Bash in the Boro

BALTIMORE– The Coppin State women's volleyball team begins the 2021 campaign in the Bash in the Boro tournament hosted by Georgia Southern August 27-28. CSU opens the tournament against former MEAC rival Bethune-Cookman on Friday afternoon before taking on the host Eagles and Presbyterian the following day.  All three matches will feature live stats while Coppin's matchup against GSU will also air on ESPN+.

  • The Eagles were picked to win the MEAC in the Preseason Poll.
  • Junior Ashley Roman was named the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year. A native of Isabela, P.R., Roman was the 2020 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and an AVCA All-Region selection last season and is ranked sixth in CSU history with 815 digs. Her 4.66 digs per set and three matches with at least 30 digs are school records.
  • Senior Miajavon Coleman was also named to the Preseason All-MEAC team. A three-time All-MEAC honoree from San Antonio, Texas, Coleman led the MEAC with 191 total kills while ranking third with 3.29 kills per set. Coleman hit .176 for the season to go with 1.98 digs per set, 27 blocks and 20 service aces.
  • Senior Kareemah Hopkins, the 2020 MEAC Setter of the Year, led the MEAC with 559 assists (9.32 per set) while adding 1.32 digs per set, 26 blocks and 11 aces.
  • Coppin also welcomes back the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year, Chudear Tut, as well as Second Team All-MEAC performer Paola Caten.
 Scouting the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
  • The Wildcats were selected to finish fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
  • They return to action this season after sitting out a year due to COVID.
  • The Wildcats are retuning seven student-athletes, including Alleah Dallas, and introducing 11 freshmen.
Scouting the Presbyterian Blue Hose
  • The Blue Hose were picked to finish eighth in the Big South preseason poll.
  • Presbyterian is returning 13 student-athletes and welcomes in a pair of freshmen.
  • Erin Cooke is back and led the team in kills with 166 and kills per set (2.63) last season.
Scouting the Georgia Southern Eagles
  • The Eagles were picked third in the East Division preseason poll for the Sun Belt.
  • Junior Mya Wilson was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. She ranked 10th in the league in points per set (3.38) and reached double digits in kills in nine matches.
