NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's volleyball team continues to be at the forefront of the MEAC Awards as the Eagles swept the weekly honors for the second-straight week.
Miajavon Coleman was named Player of the Week,
Chudear Tut was selected as the Rookie of the Week,
Kareemah Hopkins earned Setter of the Week and
Ashley Roman took home Defensive Specialist of the Week.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Coleman recorded 19 kills, five aces, nine digs and three blocks in a pair of Coppin victories over Howard. In Thursday's four-set win, Coleman recorded ten kills and four digs while hitting .250. Coleman followed with a team-high nine kills, five digs, three blocks and a career-high five aces.
Coleman became the fourth CSU player to record 1,000 career points and is nearing the 1,000-kill plateau.
Tut is now a four-time MEAC Rookie of the Week after recording 17 kills and a team-high nine blocks while hitting .297 last week. A freshman from Minneapolis, Minn., Tut racked up 11 kills and four blocks in Thursday's four-set win before adding six more kills and four blocks in Friday night's sweep.
Earning Setter of the Week for the fifth time this season, Hopkins averaged nearly eight assists per set in a pair of wins over Howard this past week. Hopkins, a San Diego, Calif., native, had 36 assists, four aces, three blocks and two kills on Thursday, followed by 19 assists and two kills on Friday.
Roman was credited with 18 digs to lead the Eagles defense on Thursday, followed by a match-high nine digs in Friday's three-set sweep. A native of Isabela, P.R., Roman also had nine assists as the eagles held the Bison to a .030 hitting percentage on Friday.
Coppin will look to go over the .500 mark when it hosts Delaware State for a 6 pm MEAC match on Friday, March 8 at 6 pm.
