NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Aliyah Lawson has been named the MEAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the third time this season that Lawson has received the honor.
A junior from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, Lawson scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in a win at Delaware State last week. Lawson hit a jumper with 1:16 remaining in the game and blocked the Hornets' potential game-winning shot with three seconds to go to preserve the two-point victory.
This season, Lawson ranks second in the MEAC with 14.7 points per game and 27 3-pointers while averaging 4.3 rebounds and just over a steal an assist per game. Lawson is averaging 15.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in conference games, shooting an impressive 34.8% from behind the arc.
Lawson and the Eagles host Howard University on February 20-21 at PEC Arena. Both games will tipoff at 1 pm. Coppin will wear pink jerseys during Sunday's game in honor of breast cancer awareness.
