McLean, Brown Named All-Tournament as Bowling Finishes 6th at James Brown Invitational

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's Aushia McLean and Logan Brown were named to the All-Tournament Team as the Eagles bowling team finished sixth of seven teams at the James Brown Invitational this weekend at AMF Country Club Lanes.
 
McLean led CSU with a five-match average of 191.60, finishing ninth overall with 958 pins while Brown placed tenth overall, averaging a 190.20 with 951 total pins.
 
McLean rolled three 200+ games, opening the second day of the Tournament with a 201 against North Carolina A&T and a 214 versus Delaware State before closing out traditional play with a 203 against Youngstown State. Brown was very consistent throughout the day, and played better as matches went on, finishing with a season-high 211 against Morgan State and a 199 vs. Youngstown.
 
Kaylah Castillo and Sydney Tyler also finished in the top half of the individual standings, finishing 19th and 20th, respectively, with averages of 176.20 and 175.60.  Jazzleen McRea finished 22nd at 173.60. Castillo had a high of 203 in Saturday's opener against the Aggies, Tyler recorded a high of 196 against the Penquins and McRae rolled a 203 against the host Bears.
 
After opening Saturday's traditional play with losses to nationally ranked North Carolina A&T, Delaware State and Duquesne, Coppin blew out Morgan State, 934-873 before upsetting 8th-ranked Youngstown State, 937-885.
 
Bracket play concluded the Tournament on Sunday and the Eagles bested Morgan State, 4-2, before falling to Youngstown State, 4-2.  After dropping the first three to the Bears to close out the day, Coppin battled back to win the next three before ultimately falling in game seven.
 
In Friday's Baker matches, Coppin earned a 954-779 win over Morgan State, winning all five games against the Bears.  The Eagles narrowly fell to Youngstown State, 867-828, despite taking three of five games, before dropping matches to North Carolina A&T, Delaware State and Duquesne.
 
The Eagles return to the lanes on February 19-21 for MEAC Meet #1, held at Triad Lanes in Greensboro, N.C., in the final tournament prior to the MEAC Tournament on March 19-21 in Chesapeake, Va.
