WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a strong first half, the Coppin State men's basketball team was unable to contain the Colonials falling 75-62 in the Smith Center.
The Eagles move to 1-12 on the season.
Jesse Zarzuela led the team with 19 points and a team-high four assists with seven rebounds and shot 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Tyree Corbett was the second leading scorer with a double-double of 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Nendah Tarke tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, and went 55.6% from the field.
Mike Hood was another prominent force for Coppin with nine points and two assists.
Coppin started the game off strong in a back and forth first half with nine lead changes. Although both teams broke even through six columns, Coppin still set the tone defensively as they lead in steals and blocks and forced seven turnovers for the Colonials. Zarzuela and Tarke both reached double digits in the first half alone.
Coppin trailed by two at the start of the second half before George Washington embarked on a 10-0 run. Tarke and Corbett broke the Colonials run to cut the lead back into single digits. Zarzuela scored the next seven points for Coppin which generated offensive momentum for Coppin with ten minutes left. After a layup by Tarke to maintain a single digit deficit, George Washington went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead. Corbett scored seven points in under five minutes left of play to bring Coppin back, but the George Washington secured the win with a final score of 75-62.
The Eagles are back in action hosting Towson on Saturday, December 11 in the PEC Arena. Tip-off is- set for 3 p.m.
